"Going to the wood is going home." -John Muir
Down To Earth is about 33 acres of magical land located in Boone National Forest, on the Little South Fork River, near Big South Fork Recreation Area. We are forming a land trust and non profit organization dedicated to protection of this beautiful land as nature sanctuary, creation of "back to the land" retreat area, campground and festival grounds and hands-on learning center for skills of sustainable living.
As an off-the-grid nature retreat, we offer primitive camping, BiB (bed in the barn), a charming and fully equipped barn summer kitchen, spring water, bonfires, sweat lodge area, cave, nature walks, river fun, great hiking and neighborhood attractions (Lake Cumberland, Cumberland and Yahoo Falls, Picket State Park, natural bridges, horseback riding...)
We have two regular events a year: DowntoEarth Day spring festival (over April Earth Day weekend) and Log Daze in fall (1st weekend of October.) The festival grounds are available for other events the rest of the year.
If you are interested in more information about us, would like to visit the land, do work exchange, volunteer or teach a workshops during festivals, rent the space for your own event, or become a sponsor - please let us know. click here for contact information.
LOG DAZE 2012 was a wonderful festival as we came together as community to play int the woods, teach, learn, network, make music, art and magic and celebrate the fall harvest time and the kick off of the barn summer kitchen.
To all who came: GREAT THANKS for your presence and offerings of workshops, food, wood, labor and money. Special appreciations goes to those who helped with the summer kitchen and the festival and sweat lodge preparations.
We look forward to seeing you again in spring. DownToEarth Day Family Reunion is scheduled for April 19-21.
