"Going to the woods is going home." -John Muir
Down To Earth is 50 acres of nature sanctuary, "back to the land" retreat center, primitive campground, festival grounds and "hands on" learning place for homesteading and survival skills. We are located in mid-south Kentucky, on the Little South Fork River, in Boone National Forest, about 20 miles south from Monticello, Kentucky. We are forming a land trust/non profit organization dedicated to teaching of sustainability and stewardship of the land.
We are off-the-grid but solar electricity is available for basic needs. We offer primitive camping, some cottage and camper accommodations, open barn bunk sleeping places, a fully equipped barn summer kitchen, outhouses, springs and filtered water, bonfires, sweat lodge area, caves, nature walks, river fun, great hiking and neighborhood attractions (Lake Cumberland, Big South Fork Recreational Area with Cumberland and Yahoo Falls, Picket State Park, natural bridges, rock houses, caves and horseback riding galore...)
We have several regular events a year, other times, the grounds are available to host your event.
*DowntoEarth Day Family Reunion - Earth Day, usally 3rd weekend in April,
*New Years Eve Burn, bonfire celebration on New Years Eve/Day
